Personal Experience
At what age and for what reasons did you feel called to work in veterinary medicine?
I have always known I wanted to work with animals. I started job shadowing at my local small town vet clinic when I was still in high school and went straight into the Veterinary Technician program after graduation.
What veterinary or other relevant education, credentials, and experience do you have?
I got my Veterinary Technology Degree from Madison College (then Madison Area Technical College) in 2006. I spent 6 years working in general practice before starting to moving to ER/specialty hospitals where I worked in multiple departments, primarily ER, Internal Medicine, Surgery. I went back to school and got my
Radiographic Technologist Degree from Blackhawk Technical College in 2020. I lived in LA for a while where I got to work at a large veterinary ER and referral center and met a lot of “pets of the rich and famous.” Before returning to Wisconsin I also spent a couple years using my Radiography degree to work in a large human hospital, where, ironically, I spent most of my time taking x-rays in the OR during spinal surgeries.
What aspects of your job do you find most meaningful and rewarding?
I just love being able to keep my patients safe and comfortable while they are under anesthesia.
What pets do you have at home?
I have 2 elderly cats (14 & 17 years old), and 3 dogs- an 8 year old Great Pyrenees mix, a mystery Belgian Malinois who I found as a stray while
living in LA, and a brand new 11 month old Cardigan Welsh Corgi puppy- who keep me VERY busy!
