What is OCD Debridement?
OCD Debridement (Osteochondritis Dissecans Debridement)
Indications:
- OCD occurs when abnormal cartilage and bone fragments detach within a joint.
- Surgery is indicated to remove the cartilage flap and stimulate scar tissue formation in the underlying bone bed.
Procedure:
- Debridement: Removal of the loose or damaged cartilage and bone.
- Scar Tissue Formation: Promotes healing and joint stability.
- In some cases, an artificial plug may be inserted into the bone bed.
Post-Operative Care:
- Activity Restriction: Leash walks only for 2-3 weeks.
- Physical Therapy: Passive range of motion exercises (PROM).
- Anti-inflammatory medications and joint supplements may be prescribed.
